The Contra Costa Network of Mental Health Clients was established in 1988 to help improve the quality of life and promote the well-being of mental health clients who live and/or work in Contra Costa County. The Contra Costa Network operates under the administrative umbrella of Mental Health Consumer Concerns, Inc. (MHCC) which serves as fiduciary and provides technical support to staff, volunteers and general members of the Contra Costa Network.
Staff members recruit clients to participate on various Mental Health and other related planning task forces to provide a strong voice for mental health clients on issues and public policies affecting them.
The Contra Costa Nework encourages participation by minorities in all aspects of the Contra Costa Network.
Representatives of the Contra Costa Network periodically meet with County Mental Health to discuss mental health client issues and to provide input from members of the Contra Costa Network of Mental Health Clients regarding services and other issues effecting them.
The Contra Costa Network publishes a quarterly newsletter "Times of Enlightenment." The preparation of this newsletter provides an opportunity for Contra Costa Network members to gain skill in writing, editing, and editorial production.
Staff and volunteers also provide community resource information and referral services to consumers of mental health services and to the general public.
Members also participate in various activities to educate the public about mental illness for the purpose of reducing stigma.
